Once in a while, an interesting concept comes across our desk...  Kiley's Quilt Room is offering a challenge to interested quilters, to encourage them to use her new app to catalog all your quilts.  It's a pretty cool app (available for iOS or Android), you might want to take a look at it if you like to keep a good record of your work.

You can learn more about the app and challenge from her website, and you can join the challenge by clicking here.

I found this little poem while sorting my mother's papers recently.  May it bring you a bit of joy, like it did for me -- Doris (webmistress)

She learned to quilt on Monday.
    Her stitches were very fine.
She forgot to thaw out dinner,
so we went out to dine.

    She quilted miniatures Tuesday.
She said they are a must.
    They really were quite lovely,
    but she forgot to dust

On Wednesday it was a sampler.
    She says the stippling's fun.
    What highlights! Oh, what shadows!
    But the laundry wasn't done.

Her charm quilt was on Thursday.
    Green, blue, and red.
I guess she really was engrossed.
    She never made the bed.

It was wall hangings on Friday,
    in colors she adores.
But she never seemed to notice
the crumbs on all the floors.

I found a maid on Saturday!
    My week is now complete.
    My wife can quilt the hours away;
The house will still be neat.

    Well, it's already Sunday.
I think I'm about to wilt.
    I cursed, I raved, I ranted.
The MAID has learned to QUILT!!!

What sad news!  See below for a message from Hilly's.

    Dear quilters,

It is with a heavy heart that we must announce Hilly’s Quilts will be closing the retail side of business.   The current plan is to re-open after New Years, with long arming services and a new Sewing Room that will be available for rental by appointment.  We would like to thank all the loyal customers that have become good friends and/or family over the past 25 years.  Sadly, we must empty out the entire store no later than December 31, 2023.  All inventory and fixtures will need to be gone.

Starting December 1, 2023, the below, will be available and priced as marked:

    • Fixtures
    • Quilt samples
    • Decorations/decor
    • As well as other business-related items and many other odds and ends

So, if there are any quilt samples, decorations or fixtures you have admired over the years, now is the time to get them.

If you have quilts that you plan to give for Christmas presents this year that need long-arming, the deadline is approaching. Please get your quilts in by Monday, November 27.

While we are no longer issuing gift cards, if you have any Hilly’s Quilts gift cards they will be honored until the shop closes.

Discount days such as Senior Thursday and Quilt Back Tuesday have been discountinued.

Once again, we would like to thank everyone for their support and loyalty over the years.  We will keep you updated as we move forward.

     Let’s all keep stitching,

Judith and TarynJudith Seibold, a long time member of GQCCC, passed away on June 2.

She was a generous woman and loved sewing and crocheting. She loved her guild friends and especially the Zoom groups during the pandemic.  She made many, many quilts for her large family and many friends. Every scrap of fabric became a quilt. She was a woman of faith and described her life as “charmed and blessed” ~ Tammy Zanella

Judith used to comment to me personally how I always made her laugh. I think about the song don't shed a tear for me, my life won't end without you. Judith was generous of self, had stern principles and adored by all ~ Nancy Van Meter

Thank you, Judith, for your love and caring devotion to your quilting. Bless your family in their loss ~ Pat Abernathy

I remember sitting with Judith at a GQCCC meeting and she wanted to see pictures of the quilts I have made. So I showed her on my phone and we ended up looking at all of them. She was a wonderful spirit and I will miss her ~ Monica Kaseman

Patsy Ronat and Valerie Sauban traveled with this year's opportunity quilt one last time to present the work to the raffle winner, Jeanne Myers.

The winning ticket was purchased at one of the early ticket sales events at The Ruth Bancroft Gardens & Nursery in Walnut Creek, where Jeanne and friends were celebrating a birthday. Her plans are to prominently display the quilt in her home on a wall with a cedar backdrop.

Patsy and Valerie tirelessly sold tickets at many  sister guild meetings and venues in the months leading up to this year's quilt show.  Ticket sales were brisk during the show.  Over 12,500 tickets filled the raffle drum to near-capacity on the day of the drawing!

    Congratulations, Jeanne!
