SPEAKER CLASSES

In addition to workshops led by guild members, we also sponsor professional classes with guest speakers from our monthly general meetings. It is a great opportunity to learn from accomplished quilt artists.

Registration opens 90 days prior to the class date. Payment reserves your spot in the class. Class payments are non-transferable. Non-members are welcome to sign up, but will be charged a slightly higher fee. Registrants may cancel up to 35 days before the class.

GQCCC may choose to cancel the class if the minimum number of signups is not reached prior to the date noted in the class description. The minimum number of students varies by class.

If the instructor is available to teach locally, the class will be held in-person GQCCC’s Farmhouse location at 5554 Clayton Rd in the “Big Room”. Otherwise, the class will be held over Zoom.

David will guide you through a creative process for designing your own modern abstract quilts, taking inspiration from architectural photos to develop dynamic and unique quilt designs.

Working from photos of architectural elements, David will guide you through the steps to design a mini modern fabric quilt… inspired by architecture! You will learn the quilt-as-you-go method, sewing the top pieces, batting and backing simultaneously. You’ll then add texture and complexity with David’s unique approach to walking foot machine quilting where the quilting lines become a major design element. Learn to connect multiple quilted units with a great gusset join technique, then add a simple face binding for a modern finish.

At David's request, the supplies list and Zoom information will be provided to registrants two weeks prior to the class (May 25, 2024).

This quilt was inspired by deciding to limit choices and work with the simple 4-Patch block. Limitations are wonderful for creating set parameters to work with and open up a field of possibilities to concentrate on color, value and design. With fewer distractions of learning new sewing techniques, you can wholly focus on your color play and layout.

We will cover all the steps of the design in this class, from auditioning colors to the role of value in creating movement, and go step by step through each aspect of the design process.

Tara will be our guest speaker at the September 2024 general meeting.

    Level: Confident beginner to intermediate
