Here we are, in the time of Covid! Things are different. We have been rethinking how to do what we used to do. So here is our plan to distribute our kits to make items for the VA. Using the restaurant industry’s food distribution model to distribute our kits, we propose “you drive to us” or we can “Uber to you,” observing social distancing protocols.
Thanks to Madame President’s informative survey, we now know most of you are comfortable picking up kits; those not, call and we’ll set up a meet in a park for you. Here is the new distribution plan:
Kit pick up and return. Please give us a call to let us know if you want us to Uber to you or what time works for you to come pickup or drop off and what you would like. Contact us to drop off masks as well.
If you would like a little project, we have quilt tops to quilt, kits to assemble into tops, block kits and pillowcase kits. Please let us know what you would like.
The Veteran’s Hospital in Martinez would like more masks. They have requested that you make masks with ties and not elastic if possible.
If you wish to help out, here are patterns for the masks they have requested, and information on where to deliver them.
Directions are on the Resource page

Patriotic Quilts originated within the Quilts to Share Program in 2005, with the specific purpose of making quilts of comfort and appreciation for our wounded soldiers returning from the Iraq War. The program has grown from the original 21 quilts delivered directly to injured soldiers in Germany, to over 50 quilts a year presented to local men and women who have been injured or honorably served in our military. Current donations are provided to Quilts of Honor, and the Martinez VA Hospital. Member contributions include: completed quilts, tops, fabric, wheel chair bags, pillowcases, and blocks made from our monthly program.
Each month quilt kits are available for check out and then returned completed the following month.
Thank you for all you do to honor the service of our veterans. One of the groups PQ team supports with our quilts is Quilts of Honor https://www.quiltsofhonor.org. The mission of this organization is to bestow a universal symbol and token of thanks, solace, and remembrance to those who serve in harm’s way to protect and defend our lives and freedoms. Quilts of Honor are made by the loving hands of countless volunteers who wish to thank those who have served so that they know their sacrifices are appreciated.
