The Gee's Bend Quilting Collective is a historic quilting collective located in Boykin, Alabama. The women of Gee's Bend have been creating quilts since the early 20th century to the present. Their quilts represent the transformation from vessels of survival made from necessity while living in deep poverty in rural Alabama to recognized pieces of art and history in museums and galleries.
This presentation is part of the Barbara Lee and Elihu Harris Lecture Series, co-produced by the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center and Peralta Community College District, which promotes an ample exchange of ideas to help inspire and move forward new leadership and servantship.
