Happy December, Quilting Friends!
We are so fortunate to have enjoyed another great year of guest speakers, classes, workshops, mini groups and more! Our generous guild members have made hundreds of quilts, and other items to give back to those in need in our community through Quilts to Share, and to our Veterans through Patriotic Quilts. We are blessed.
Our holiday gathering, on December 21 at Shadelands, will be very special this year. Denise Oyama Miller, of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), will be bringing a traveling interactive art quilt exhibit for her presentation. We will work, in smaller groups, with the lovely art quilts that Denise has brought, as we touch, talk, evaluate, share ideas, receive inspiration and conjure up lots of lovely things to do in the future! Please bring a savory or a sweet to share. We are repeating the fun game we played last year, so if you would like to join in this rousing play, please bring seven (7) – 5” 1/2″ squares.
Each year the guild’s biggest expenses are the rent for the Farmhouse, (where mini groups, workshops, and board meetings are held), guest speaker fees, and rental of Centre Concord for our general meetings. One way our guild raises money is through the sale of Opportunity Quilt tickets to other guilds and each member purchases $20 of tickets that they can keep or sell again. It is that time of year, my dears! We need to get our checkbooks out.
Another way we raise money to pay for all the benefits our members can enjoy is by having a Quilt Show each year. The Quilt Show is scheduled for April 2-3, 2016. Committee Chairs will start signing up volunteers at the January general meeting as there are hundreds of volunteer opportunities at the Quilt Show. Please sign up to volunteer – it is a great opportunity to make new friends!
And in closing, whatever your holiday plans are for the last month of 2015, I wish you lots of comfort and joy! And a Very Happy New Year!
Dale Wolfe, President
